ESSAY CONTEST TO BENEFIT HOA YOUTH PROGRAM

Jolie Alongi of Arrow Rock Spanish Mustangs in Oklahoma, has generously donated an HOA registered 2007 Colonial Spanish colt to the Horse of the Americas Registry to benefit their new Youth program.

Essays are to be 250 words or more and are to include the reason why the applicant would like to own a Colonial Spanish horse, why he or she would be a suitable owner for a Colonial Spanish horse, what use he or she make of the horse, and how he or she would make a positive contribution to the preservation and promotion of the Colonial Spanish horse as a breed.

In addition to the essay, those participating in the contest will be required to fill out an application to be submitted with a $15 entry fee. Applicants will need to provide personal information (name, address, phone number, and age) as well as giving two or more local references, along with a description of where the horse will be kept, horse experience, etc. (see note). One of those references should be from their veterinarian, and the other( s) should be from a well-respected horse person from their community such as a trainer, riding instructor, 4-H leader or other.

*note: There are many questions that are included in the actual application.*

The contest is open to all ages. The judging panel will review every essay entered. The top 10 will be chosen. At that time references will be checked on these applicants. If the first place applicant does not meet the requirements of the judging committee, the writer of the essay that was ranked second will have references checked, and so on until a winner is chosen.

If the colt is awarded to someone who finds that they are not able to accept the colt, then the essay in the next placementwill be awarded the colt so long as they meet the requirements. The chosen winner will be responsible for the cost of shipping the colt from Arrow Rock Spanish Mustangs, the cost of vaccinations, health papers, Coggins test, brand inspection or any other costs that are related to the shipping or care of the colt, at Arrow Rock Mustangs' discretion.  The winner will become an HOA member for the first year, compliments of the Horse of the Americas Registry.  The winner or winner's family will be responsible for paying the membership after the firstyear has expired.

The contest  winner will be announced at the annual HOA meeting October 6-7 in Indiana. All  collected application fees will go directly towards enhancing the HOA Youth Program to ensure the future of our CS horses.  The money will go towards year - end awards for our youth members, promotional material of the Youth Program, scholarships for our junior members to attend clinics, shows, rides, or participate in  lessons, or any other ways which will enrich the child and their CS horse.
